I first updated all devices to 17.6.1 but then jumped to 17.7 when it was released. Did not expect another version of iOS 17 just before the 18 release.

Overall I am glad to have updated. Feels almost like a new phone, at least to me.

I have not been traveling extensively where the full battery capacity is needed and the 13 mini is pushed to its limits

I recently (and extensively) camped/traveled the Mojave desert with my 13 Mini . . . it was 100-110F during the day . . . She never skipped a beat.

Of course, I had a power bank on extended jaunts, and was always able to charge Her in the rental truck ;)

Saw your pictures on the other thread, looked really amazing. Good to know about your experience in the heat. I am traveling to Saudi Arabia on a regular basis, gets also quite hot in the summer. The phone on iOS 15 did get pretty hot when using messaging, Uber, Google Maps and email + browse simul outside while in the sun. But no temperature warning or other hick-ups.

Just bought a new battery for my 13 Mini, which was at 84% capacity. With 17.6.1 (21G101) such a huge different in longevity. Literally getting 7-9 hours now per day, which is more than enough for me.

Considering iOS 18, not only am I waiting for almost all of the bugs to be worked out before I consider, but also how much it degrades other's 13/13 Minis performance & daily battery life. I know security updates...🙄.

Edit: Also with 17.6.1 (21G101), no draining from 100% charge overnight if left off charger now. But I do have all parasitic settings off like background refreshing etc.
Did you fit it yourself or got a 3rd party repairer to do it. I ask as Apple generally only replaces if health drops to 80% or below, just curious.

Yes, it also applies given that it’s basically the same machine. So far, the difference is noticeable although maybe it’s still early to tell.

After 18 hours since I unplugged it at 100%, it’s still at 70%. Admittedly, the usage has been light, but with the build 21G101 the phone was hot and drained faster with the same conditions.

You can check what build you installed in Settings -> General -> Info -> iOS Version 17.6.1 -> Tap there and it will reveal the build number.

If you have the 21G101 and experience battery drain like me, let me know and I’ll explain you how to install the original build of 17.6.1 (21G93).

Old thread but what version of iOS 17 had best battery of the last handful ones that came out before iOS 18 GM?

Would you say the 21g93 17.6.1 build or another 17.X?

On my device the build 101 had efficiency issues. As I say in the message you’re quoting, it made my phone hot and drain battery pretty quickly.

The build 93 worked pretty great, but let me tell you that iOS 18.1 works, I’d dare to say, more efficiently than iOS 17 on my experience.

Sadly, 18.1 is no longer signed.

Interesting ! More than 18.1.1?

I had 18.0 on my mini and wasn’t as bad as I was expecting but I just miss some iOS 17 things on that device

I don’t understand… what can you miss from an older iOS version other than its (usually) better battery life? Newer major releases only add new features, not remove old ones (again, usually).

I cannot speak for 18.1.1, but I’d say it shouldn’t be much different. Anyways, in just a few days (maybe tomorrow) iOS 18.2 will be out! We’ll see how that version goes.

In my case sped up animations with cowabunga lite

And getting a feel again for old cc / photos app. feels a little more performant to me too

But to each their own

I was surprised 18.0 wasn’t a dog on my device that said
