I have iPod touch 2g 8GB running OS 2.1.1 and i want to update.

My internet connection wont let me download the 200+mb file.
I have access to public computers that can download large files like that, but they dont have itunes on them and i cant get it on them.
Is it possible to just download the update file without itunes, then transfer it onto my computer and then insstall it on my ipod through itunes?

    Thx.
    Kris

    Yes.

Find the direct link to the firmware update (some people usually post them in the latest firmware threads, I found the 2.2 update by searching "iPod touch software direct link" in Google). Make sure you take a flash drive or portable hard drive with you, and connect it to the computer. When you select the download, select "Save" and then select the portable drive you connected. The update will download onto there. When it's done, plug it into your own computer and copy the update to your desktop or somewhere you can easily navigate to. Open iTunes and connect the iPod.

Now, in iTunes, if you're using a Mac press the 'option' key on your keyboard, if you're using Windows I'm not too sure, but it should be one of the keys on the bottom left-hand side of the keyboard. While holding the key down, selecting "Update" in iTunes should open a window that lets you navigate to where you saved the software file. Select the file and press enter; the iPod will now update using that file.
