Some weeks ago I was contacted by Apple regarding a potential problem with the 160GB 7200rpm harddrive in my SR MBP. They had me mail it in (with a pre-addressed box provided by Apple) for assessment. Sure enough, the harddrive required replacement, due to problems with "mounting and drive recognition". Apparently I am not the only one who has been subject to this "quiet" recall.

"Mounting and drive recognition"? Is this an actual software problem? Or does it mean some factory tech didn't secure the internal cable very well and now the connectivity is poor?

I have no idea. The service representative was clearly reading some technical copy and could not give me any further information. At least it is being repaired for free, whatever the problem was.
