yall are brave! keeping homekit on 17 for a while.

find all the bugs! thanks :)
Haha I’m a sucka for these updates. It’s because every update brings along a bug that I’m hoping the next update will fix. Instead I get to keep the old bugs and inherit new bugs. It’s really a never ending vicious cycle.

TL;DR: I guess what I’m saying is, the more I update, the more I need to update.

Here is what I had to do in order to get the preferred Hub option to show up in Apple Home.

I run no betas and never have. All my Apple devices were updated to the latest software and all were restarted. I removed each ATV from the Apple Home App and then unplugged each one from the wall outlet. After each ATV restarted they showed up with the option to use as a Home Hub in the Home App like they are suppose to. Unplugging from the wall seemed to do the trick I'm not so sure I needed to remove them from the Home App.

Hope that helps for those not seeing the options.

I removed it from Homekit in settings and unplugged it separately, but no success. Will try this one next. I even resetted it, which didn‘t help either.
Again, I have a ticket open with Apple Support, which sits at the devs now, for this and the fact, that I also have a phantom hub that isn‘t existing and I can‘t remove.
Will update all my posts about this as soon as I hear news.

All devices updated to latest iOS version and still not seeing the options anywhere on any devices. Two Apple TVs and four HomePods.

The option for me to use the preferred up popped up what seemed like exactly 24 hours after updating my last hub to TVOS 18. I was reading about that 24 hour rule after updating a lot on Reddit so I just remained patient.

Had a slight hiccup though. Said one of my hubs wasn’t updated to 18 when it was. I verified this in the device settings and in iCloud. I rebooted it, then clicked on software update (said it was already updated to the latest) and that seemed to have cleared the hiccup. All’s well now.

25 home hubs in total- mix of ATV’s, OG’s and Minis

Still not working for me. I just should have stayed away (again) from the beta, even though it was the RC. Had that years back happening after a beta or RC it screwed up everything...
Do you have any phantom hubs? I read on Reddit, if you have that bug, you also don’t get the option to select a preferred home hub

Looks like the phantom hubs prevents this from working (read down through the Reddit post):

Yes I do. Thank you for the post too. Reading it now. I thought this could be the issue since Siri on Homepods acts weird often, saying some devices are slow, even though everything worked perfectly fine. I assume Apple Support will point that as issue out for sure

I’m in the same boat - I have a phantom hub - and no option to select a hub. Siri works well mind you (for the basics - smart home control, timers, et al.). If Apple Support find a solution, please post it!!

I‘m going to update all my posts here and on Reddit regarding those issues.

So everyone waiting for my update regarding the "select preferred home hub" issue, I've got a callback from Apple Support today, and she said the devs recommended trying to reset and wipe the whole home configuration, and setting up a new home, although she said she's not a fan of that solution, otherwise I should wait for a future update. I read somewhere that the bug with the "phantom hub" is around since two years or even more, so I tried it with setting up a new home. I also use an Ikea Dirigera bridge and Nanoleaf products. I was pretty fast and what happened: the phantom hub is finally gone, and the selection of preferred home hub appeared immediately after.

In conclusion I would recommend that too

That’s just not a solution for me. In addition to having lots of smart home devices, I also have 100s of automations, scenes, shortcuts, and so forth, that all reference different HomeKit devices and HomePods. It would take ages to recreate that, and I don’t even know where I’d start

After updating 3 AppleTVs, 3 Pods, 2 iPhone's and an iPad to latest versions I was also not seeing the Preferred Hub settings. Tried the re-start of all devices - still no luck. So, since I also use the Home app on my Mac's (Mac Studio and MacBookPro) I updated the MBP from Senoma to Sequoia and the settings appeared in Home app on the Mac and my iPhone!

Interesting thing, on the Mac Studio running Sonoma, the old Hub settings page is still showing.

Had this issue initially. Restarted devices didn’t do anything. Finally flipped the breaker for whole house and that did the trick. Guessing it had to do with router or all home hubs etc…. Since I have an Apple TV and 10 HomePods.

Has anybody with a phantom hub (if you have one - you’ll know what I’m talking about) managed to get this to work?
