By U.S. law, a piece of electronics has to be replaced by the manufacturer if it's been fixed three times or more for the same problem and still has that problem. I'm not sure if you could get a new one if they refuse to fix it but maybe you could argue your way into a new MacBook. ;)

Can you cite what section of US law this is? I tried to find it, but found no such law.
 
In California, the "lemon law" starts with section 1790 of the civil code, but unfortunately doesn't specify a number of repairs, only a "reasonable" number.

Reasonable to me is three attempts. Reasonable to Apple is 50, I'm sure.
 
dag. I'm about to order a refurbished myself. how unbearable is the whine? say if your setting on the coach watching tv could you hear it?
