The update failed, then it said I had to restore, clicked restore, restore failed. I think I'm owned. Any suggestions?

I went into the iPod Software Update folder and deleted the files, now I'm downloading it again through iTunes. Hopefully the download just got corrupted for some reason.

Force it back into restore mode (if it isn't already) and start again.

I did that once but I caused it myself by futzing around with the kernel boot parameters.. I doubt yours is the same cause :p

No luck, it's still bricked. I get "An unknown error has occurred (1604). Is there any place I can download the original firmware from to restore to?

this doesn't sound good. i'd be totally freaking if this was happening to me. i'm at work and haven't update my ipod yet. now i'm scared.

I'm downloading the update on another macbook pro right now, I'll post the results in a little bit. Worst case scenario is that I'll have to go to Bestbuy tonight. I just hope they have them in stock.

Do you run on a setup that has admin privileges? If not (and many people elect to use unprivileged "runner" setups), then maybe some part of the update assumed you have write permission to something that you don't. Then if the developers never ran QC on the whole thing with unpriv setup, perhaps an auth was required somewhere and error is not trapped in time.

Still bricked... I've been on hold with apple for 20 minutes now. Dammit.

I've seriously been on hold for an hour. I'm just going down to bestbuy after work. This blows.

Dearye, I do hope you get it fixed.

To whomever the idiot that wrote "newbi to iPod touch" is a true dweeb. I'd like to point out that it's been two weeks since the first ones showed up. We are ALL newbis you dolt.

Bob:rolleyes:

quick fuse

wow, that guy was just asking what bricked means and you guys jumped all over him...

this person was asking a question while explaining that HE was a newbie...

brick means that the unit is disabled to the point that it is unusable... hence a "brick"

Hey thechidz - I'm glad someone else can put the title to a post and the body together before getting defensive.

I had to put my touch in restore mode and then the update installed. My music is copying now. So far, so good.

Hah, I've never seen anyone use titles to ask questions on forums.

Anyway, I got mine to work again by trying the update twice on another macbook pro...

Any news? I am on hold with apple as well. Just got disonnected with a guy who said they have been having 1602 and 1604 errors all day. Said it was an easy fix... But I needed to have him call me back on another line, and he never did.
