I'm interested in seeing the iPod Touch catch up to the iPhones and not stay SO f'n far behind all the other offerings from the Apple. The speed on the Touch that is now for sale is ridiculous! With VoiP now having gotten so much better and the fact that I don't really have need of a cell phone makes the Touch so much more appealing and appropriate for me. But lagging way behind the curve, as it is now, makes that a questionable possibility.

I’d like the touch to be updated, but I just don’t think Apple cares anymore.

If you wanted it for music, I’m looking into other products like the Cowon Plenue line and th FiiO X line.

I find the iPod Touch to be the most versatile music player over any other players. I can do offline mode for any streaming service, add a radio/podcast app that none of the other players can do. The SQ is definitely one of the best I've heard and that's comparing with overpriced music players from Sony, FiiO, iBasso and iRiver.

My gut feeling is that they want everyone to move to streaming so they don't want to provide a dedicated offline device with stored music. I think another company maybe Sony is going to have to keep the iPod/Walkman concept alive.

A used iPhone 5S or SE can be had for about the same price or less than a similar Touch 6. Screen size is the same but the case and battery are larger. Any service center can replace the battery for $49 (was $29 last month).

I like my Touch 6 but just don’t see Apple updating it. Anything except straight listening is hell on battery usage. In iOS 12.1.1, I can get 20 hours of straight listening* but if I attach an external Shure MV88 mic and use the MOTIV Video app, I can’t get an hour.

When I replaced my iPhone 7 Plus a few months ago and took advantage of the $29 battery deal for that, my first thought was, “At last, an iPod with truly decent battery life!” But bigger, of course.

And I think that’s the future of the iPod — used iPhones which is too bad.

Although I use my 6th gen iPod Touch daily (primarily for videos), it isn't as good of an audio player as my 7th gen iPod Nano. I still have and use my 3rd gen fatty, my 6th gen (which I use as a watch).

I really appreciate the hardware buttons on the Nano that allow more control simply by feel without having to wake a screen and visually search for navigation icons.

As for whether or not the Touch should be updated... I don't see a need for it these days, but if there are people who do, Apple should produce something that is going to be to the level of quality and abilities that the "iPod" name historically has had.
