Update to Lion or Migrate First?

I am awaiting delivery of a 15" MBP from MacMall. Should I update to Lion prior to migrating files from a 2008 pre-unibody MBP or vice versa? I think updating first is the best bet but would welcome some opinions.

I would update first, that way you have a clean install before you start moving stuff over and don't have to deal with the upgrade afterwards.
