I've bought a new MacBook Pro. I've installed OS X 10.10, signed in with my Apple ID and am performing the necessary updates.

However, two of the updates - Garageband and Keynote, won't update and just dispay the following error:

"This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled."

In true computer fashion, no more information is offered, and I can't remove them from 'Updates Available'.

What's going on?

Try going to your cart in the App Store (the Purchases tab), the updates should also show up there for download.

If not, delete the apps and re-download them from there (instead of going to the usual Updates tab). That worked for me.

I think it's a weird issue that only appears whenever you buy a new machine. You are entitled to this Apple software for free thanks to the hardware purchase (others aren't) and the App store messes this up sometimes in the Update tab.

This error therefore only happens for Apple-supplied software as you described (Garageband, Pages etc.)

This worked for me. I bought a refurbished Macbook from Apple, and when I went to the Purchase tab, the apps needed to be "transferred" to my apple ID.

you need to go to itunes>store (in the menu)>autorize this computer and put your apple id... that should work..then try installing the updates again. it worked for me..

THIS ERROR does not just occur with new macs. I have a 3-year old iPad, and when I try to 'update all' from my computer via iTunes, it informs me that this Apple ID has been disabled for security reasons and goes on to say updates are not available because the account was canceled or transferred.??? I did not sell/buy my iPad from anyone else.

NOW WHAT?
[doublepost=1463941173][/doublepost]ALSO, my password gets rejected by iTunes even though I can sign on with it other times. Then I get redirected to Apple ID to 'recover' (change) my password, which I will not do, since when I sign on to Apple ID, my password works.

Will I get an email at mommosan@mac.com when someone finds a solution for me?
