Update Your Apple ID - Via iOS to get additional features

I am on tvOS16 and I have a message in settings to "Update Your Apple ID, The Apple ID *** needs to be updated to use new features. Hold your iPhone or iPad close to this Apple TV to update". What are these new features, and why is an iOS device needed to do this?

I'm not sure what the new features are since I only use my Apple TV to stream over the Internet. I updated using my phone because I couldn't stand seeing that message all the time.

I got that message too, and constant interruptions asking me to view updated T&Cs which then went nowhere when trying to view them. I eventually got tired of it and did a factory reset.

Almost got rid of the issue, now it just asks to finish Homekit setup; for some reason it can’t choose the name of the room without an iPhone (but it’s not demanding ios16 this time) I don’t even use HomeKit and my iPhone can’t run iOS 16 🙄

Very strange.

I believe TVOS16 introduced the Personalized Spatial Audio feature when using AirPods with ATV. As this feature is generated by using an iPhone's Face ID camera system, to measure your face/ear positions it maybe that by linking your iOS device to the ATV, the measurements are used from the phone to create that Personalized Spatial Audio effect when watching TV using AirPods

So far I have not had much success with the initial set-up on my iPhone as trying to scan your ear's with the Face ID camera at 90º to your eyes makes seeing the alignment difficult!
