I have ported the newest version of the Links2 web browser to Mac OS X 10.3.9-10.6.8. This will work on any PPC Mac, or an Intel Mac with Rosetta.

Links2 is wicked quick and supports TLS 1.3. It uses the latest Mozilla CA certificates, and OpenSSL among other things. Wikipedia and many sites work flawlessly (but there is no javascript support).

This is what I'm getting for Text Mode in Tiger (X11 not installed)

This is a great addition to the PPC browser wars. Links2 also will get you around the nytimes.com and washingtonpost.com paywalls. text.npr.org and lite.cnn.com also work great on them, for simple reading of the news. Once you figure out how to navigate sites many will work fine for reading content. On very low end Pentium III's running Puppy linux its my go to browser. Is it also possible now to link older browsers like Camino to the TLS and CA certificates so they too can function again, to the best of their limited abilities?

I’m curious to try my other systems now. I’m more interested on running it on Tiger on some G3s. I only played with it on that PowerBook because I happened to be using it when I saw this thread.

Only works for me on Leopard if I rename my X11 folder to X11R6....graphical version missing the X11 app - guess Leopard needs a separate install?

Strange this works out of the box for me on 10.5.6... I can check for the directory and symlink it if that helps in the next release.

How would you go about updating the certs for let's say Tigerkit?

Im unfamiliar with Tigerkit, but I get my certs from here .

No, don't worry it's ok - I've copied and renamed the X11 folder plus the problem for the graphical version is my install is missing the X11 app in Applications/Utilities.

Oh so normally this won’t happen? By the way, you’ve convinced me to change how it works next release. I will compile links2 twice, with x support and without x support. That way you can use text mode without x!

New Links2 Release2 (R2) is out! Now includes an app icon, the latest OpenSSL 1.1.1g, and a compatibility fix for Mac OS X 10.3.9. X11 is also not required for text mode.
