Updated iPhone 3GS to iOS 5... Contacts ALL GONE! HELP!!!

How do i get back my contacts? WHY DID THE NEW UPDATE ERASE ALL MY CONTACTS?!

Where did you have them stored? Did you do a backup?

Were you on iOS 4 when you update. Going to iOS 5 from anything below is a complete update, not incremental so it erases everything on the phone, this is a fresh update. You will need to restore your apps, contacts from your backup in iTunes.
