Updated to 4.0 on mac

Hey guys i used my bros mac book to update my phone no problemo! my question is because im a pc user can i just update from my pc now thats its 4.0?

that's not the reason why.
DMG files can be opened in windows using appropriate 3rd party tools (most of the ISO mounting apps can do DMG files just fine).

I've tried unpacking the dmg file (on a mac, even) to get the ipsw, then doing the update on a PC (7 Enterprise x64), and it bricked the phone. The restore completed "successfully", but the phone wound up in DFU mode anyway. Works perfectly on the Mac every time.

Not what the OP asked.

You need a Mac to update because Apple has somehow prevented Windows users from updating. They've done something to the IPSW.
