Previously, when I updated the OS on my iPad (or my iPhone for that matter), my device was restored exactly to the state it was in before the update (with all apps and, most importantly, all apps data).

Today, I updated to iOS 5. After the update process, and a restore, all my apps are gone. I am puzzled. All apps were restored when I did other updates, but not this time.

Is there any way I can get my apps (data) back? I know I can reinstall them. I am mostly interested in the Apps' data. (And also, I had spent a lot of time organizing my apps into folders... I would love to get that back...)

    Thanks for any help!

Yeah same for me, but al you have to do and redownload then from your past purchases, and your app data will still be there

You may have gotten an error during installation which said that there was an issue and you can continue but everything on your phone would be wiped, you probably hit continue instead of cancel.

Just sync with itunes or restore from backup

really? so for example, with iAnnotate, I have a gig of marked up PDFs.. all that will magically appear if one re-downloads the app? Does that mean it is stored on the ipad somewhere or on the computer?

Restoring from a backup should fix it. Unless you didn't backup first...
The update bricked my phone, and for a good hour I would get nothing but error messaged from iTunes. I finally got it to update, restored from a backup, and everything is exactly like it was, but with new features now.

I think you're right, that's probably what I did... However, I did restore from backup, but this didn't help: still no apps...

I did backup of course. But the restore from backup did not restore my apps. Very strange.
