iPhone updated to iOS18.7, iPhone 12 Pro now beachballin' during "backup"

iPhone 12 Pro updated to 18.7 today, tried to backup but it never finishes.. looks like its stuck at "backing up iPhone" (at the end of the sequence).
(iPad Pro was updated and backed up fine/nominal to MacStudio)

EDIT>> did a hard reboot of phone/erased the previous backup, still beachballin' at the end

Anyone seeing this? have a solution? Rebooted Mac, sync completed ... but really slow to finish
