After 3 tries from 2 different Apple stores they all have loose home buttons that move around and squeak...

Anyone else keep getting garbage from the Genius bar? 2 of them had dust all under the screen and ugly yellow screens. Looks like a Foxconn worker pissed under the display before it was sent to USA.

iPhone 4.

I'm on my 5th replacement right now, just got off the phone with an apple specialist and she said "they would take care of me" just make another appointment. Wondering if I should just keep the POS until june when I sell it or drive 20 miles for another swap.

You should definitely ask for a new one !

Going into the Apple store used to be fun, now it just makes me sick. lol

iPhone 2G/3G/3GS were all perfect, even dropped them a couple times and never had an issue with the screens or home buttons.

i think the home button issue is a legitimate issue. however the yellow screen considering almost the majority of them have some form of off-white tint or yellow hue to the screens seems like a non-issue and honestly while the phone looks yellow the colors and angles are more vibrant and true to form which from what i understand is what apples intentions were.
The more blue hue is a washed out over saturated overkill on white balance.
I wouldnt honestly worry about the yellow hue ive seen my friends iPhone 4 with blue tint, mine with yellow and others with yellows ultimately theyre brighter and vibrant with better color production. People are just used to over saturated panels and screens.

The over white balanced blue hued are not truly calibrated like a professional grade monitor. compared one to a generic uncalibrated TN panel and say a LED ACD and you will notice the regular generic flatpanel has a washed out blue overly white hue and the 27" has a dimmer/looks like yellow hue but much more accurately color representation.

but its all in the eye of the user.

heres my true 100% story.

I bought iPhone 4 and received it June 23, 2010. Screen looked like the left but had a loose home button. I kept it and put a case on it. Fast forward to Jan 20, 2011 and my speaker stopped working. Went to the bar, they swapped it no problem...I got in car and noticed RIGHT AWAY the screen was really yellow. This was me noticing it without ever reading of such an issue on the internet ever. (most of the issues I ever find out are from me reading about the issue first haha) So I go to Apple in SF, Genius noticed it and gave me a replacement. Replacement was yellow so I gave it back, and he left and came back with ANOTHER yellow screen and said he went through a couple boxes. So I accepted it. Waited a week, and on Feb 24, 2011 I went to Apple in Sacramento, CA. Showed a SUPER nice and helpful genius the screen and said thats not normal. Keep in mine all my replacements look like the left in the pix and all started with 5K. So the Genius was gone for 35 minutes...came back and said he went through 30!!! black boxes and ALL were yellow tinted. He then opened a brand new RETAIL box and gave me a new phone....This screen is blue tinted.

Just wanted to add because of the yellow tints, this phone wont be returned for a replacement unless all the buttons fall out and it dies....My brand new phone has a small gap on the top front of screen (all 16 display iphone 4 in SAC had them too) but still isnt enough for a replacement....including the OK battery life this has

With all due respect.... you're out of your damn mind. The screen on the right is CLEARLY defective, and colors are clearly distorted. This inst some "warm tone". This is a decidedly yellow cast to the screen, and is a defect. Dont believe me? Show me ONE, and I mean ONE display phone at ANY Apple store in the entire WORLD with a yellow screen and I'll give you 100 dollars cash money. If its not good enough for Apple, its not good enough for me. I want the product being displayed.

I dont see how its defective, it looks like it works.
Do you understand anything about color calibration or just based on perceived looks? Blue looks good because youre probably used to it from low quality panels that have larger white balance and saturation in lighter colors.

The 3 metro Apple stores in my area have varying yellow tints, compared to mine theyre alittle deeper in yellow.

Apple intentionally hued the screens with their calibration methods. Considering most people seem to get yellow screens, coming as a majority of them have them seem sot be less of a defect then the way theyre produced.

How come every display in Sacramento, Roseville, SF, and Cupertino all have blue tinted screens?

Whether it's intentional or not, I hope that the iPhone 5 (or whatever their gonna call it) isn't that color. I'll keep my iPhone 4 before I buy one like that. It may be the perfect color balance, but personally, I think it sucks.

Trust me, it isn't the way it should be, and deep down people know that. They invented the color balance thing to justify to themselves that their phone is OK. Since many of the AppleCare phones have the yellow screens, probably because they are recycled returns, just make sure that when you open the retail box, you pay close attention, and if its yellow return it on the spot.

I dont know, ask Apple they may have the answer for you.

Well i cant imagine apple purposely making a screen one way just to piss people off?
Theres a reason for it and if a majority of phones have it, then maybe its just the way they wanted it and not how you seem itsnot the right way...it really isnt your way its apples way. Im not saying your not right, but if they really wanted them all one exact specific way they would do it.
if its a big enough issue im sure they can issue a firmware fix for it to calibrate the screens differently.
i just cant imagine that all the new refurb/black box phones and new out of box are defective because of a hue or tint....its merely a calibration or balance alteration.

The store manager said there was no possible way for her to open a retail box and make it a replacement exchange. Lies? Who knows... But after working in retail for years I know the store managers can do whatever the hell they want so he probably could have.

My plasma's are set to warmer tones but that's not how I like my phones and that's not how Apple advertises them. It's not easy on the eyes when using the phone in the dark compared to the blue screen. I could walk around the apple store with my iPad and the pics shown above and nobody would want the iPhone on the right that's yellow!

Yes, she is lying. The genius who helped me opened a brand new box in front of me. Just took the phone out, put the box with all the acessories under the desk and gave me the phone and paperwork to sign.

I was really persistent though and the Genius (about 30 years old, male) was very perplexed on why every black box had a yellow screen.

I agree that the couple of them I looked at @ Roseville had the blue tinted screen. One of my friends purchased one from Roseville and it was of the non-yellow tint variety. I got mine straight from Verizon and mine also appears to have no yellow tint.

I have had two iPhone 4's (lost first and got insurance replacement) same for my girlfriend (lost and insurance replacement) and neither had a yellow screen. Also about 15 of my friends have iPhone 4's and none have ever complained of a yellow screen and I haven't seen one

One thing is for sure though and that is damn yellow!

If i had a Yellow screen i would be sure to return it because thats not right, and the fact that the Genius had gone through so many replacements and was shocked himself at how many Yellow screens there were is just astonishing i understand if its like 1/10 iPhone have a yellow screen but that is just to much.

Somebody needs to take off the Apple fanboy goggles off because the iPhone 4 on the right is clearly defective.

This is why I love Macrumors! You guys are awesome. :D

Any advice on how I could persuade the Genius to let me take home a new unit instead of another bad replacement?

It's just a Stupid phone people. To the average sane person the phone looks great. It's only the OCD folk here who make a big deal of these little insignificant things. My phone works, looks good and I actually do stuff like answer emails, make phone calls and do business on my phone. I'm not going to make some apple retail employee who makes $12 an hour open up several boxes just so I can have a blue tinted screen. It's just the most silly thing i have ever seen.

My iPod touch 4 has the blue screen. They look different. Big deal.

I think pictures look better on my iPhone. They seem richer.

All of a sudden you guys know what apple should and shouldn't do? Isn't this just all in your head and not a real world problem?

Fanboyism has nothing to do with it. I dont understand how people think they know what is suppose to be what when Apple makes their own products not you. Maybe it suppose to be that way, considering people who have gone through dozens of replacement phones to all find them yellow (and a random blue hue tinted one).
A majority of the phones ive seen and have looked up online appear to have yellow tints or hues some drastically different then others so to say its defective is ridiculous.
I dont know about you but overly blue/saturated white honestly is not normal...clearly must be the way theyre being made and suppose to be.
