Oh, I know the argument back then was that Apple wouldn't issue timely patches (sorry...'updates'). So when they did, it was a bit of a surprise.
If something came up and was reported on in their Community, they'd wait for the more rabid Macolytes to respond - usually calling the affected user all sorts of names and blaming the user for their obvious failure as a human (heck, Jobs tried it at least once himself - "You're holding it wrong") - and only acknowledge there was a problem once it hit the critical mass of making the mainstream Media. Otherwise, they mostly relied on the once-yearly OS update to fix issues.
Thing is now though, that despite endless Betas, Public Betas and Release Candidates, the moment the product gets into the wild, there is now an ongoing string of updates. LIke this wasn't found in any of the testing? This despite they build their OSs for products they themselves design and build. Its not like Windows where the OS may be installed on a wide variety of hardware collected from whatever parts bin a manufacturer (or hobbyist) has to hand.
So sloppy even the Macoyltes can't cover Apple's ass all of the time.
