Hello fellow iMac'ers, I'm trying to install new drivers for my GPU in bootcamp, if this is even possible, but am running into issues.

I'm trying to play Red Dead Redemption 2 and am getting this message:

Then when trying to update the driver this happens:

If anyone knows how to update the drivers? Cheers

So, the official way is to do it through the Radeon Settings already on your computer. This is a Radeon Pro GPU, it uses the Radeon Enterprise drivers, not the gaming driver. Unlike days of yore, AMD is responsible for pushing the updates no longer Apple's Software Update mechanism. Inside Radeon Settings you can click check for update, but it will still be on a 19.x.x release. If memory serves it's 19.3.32, but I'm currently booted into macOS not Windows so can't verify that right now. AMD has not pushed out any newer updates for the Radeon Pro series used by Apple in the iMacs - there was one minor update for me when I started but it was a very minor x.x.x release.

Unofficially

You can get the gaming drivers patched to work with your GPU from the long-hailed bootcampdrivers

Thanks man, I might wait for an official update (figures crossed) don't particularly want to install a patched update.

Good luck with that! Apple rarely update boot camp drivers. Amd won’t make any available for Apple devices so you need to wait for drivers to be issued through the Apple updated. This is why bootcamp drivers was created

This is not accurate for these GPUs actually. For the Navi GPUs and I think Vega as well, but not entirely certain about Vega, Apple entirely gave the WIndows driver responsibility to AMD’s system, and it is no longer handled through Apple’s Software Update utility on Windows. It is handled through the Radeon Settings. HOWEVER! AMD seems so far to be operating at the same snail pace with the Apple specific GPUs, but it is also on the Enterprise drivers which are behind anyway, so we’ll see as time goes by. But Apple relinquished some of that responsibility to AMD

Why does the AMD site include this note with all their drivers?

This driver is not intended for use on AMD Radeon products running in Apple Boot Camp platforms. Users of these platforms should contact their system manufacturer for driver support.

The regular AMD driver is not the one they provide for Bootcamp. So for the traditional driver, it isn’t intended for those GPUs. But the appropriate bootcamp drivers are handled by AMD

If you try to install any of the 'non-Bootcamp' drivers from the AMD site, you get the message 'no compatible GPU was found' or 'no AMD hardware found'.

I use the Bootcampdrivers.com Red drivers for my Vega card, but your milage may vary with the 5700XT, and it looks like the AMD bootcamp driver packages are more up to date than the last time I tried (I think the AMD drivers were v20.20 from 2020 and the Bootcamp ones were v19.10 from late 2019). But you won't know how old a driver is in there until you install it.

Ah, thanks for this.

Just checked and I am on 19.30.01.53 and 20.10 is available (2017 iMac 5K with RX580).

... In that case there's a newer version of the driver for the Polaris GPU than the Navi. Mine is still just 19. something I think it's 19.50.32 or something like that.
