My startup disk on my macbook was corrupted, so I booted with the Snow Leopard DVD to fix the issue. After the repair was done, the last line of the log had the following message:

Updating Boot Support Partitions for the volume is required

Any idea what this is?

You misread the message. It actually says, "Updating Boot Support Partitions for the volume as required."

All it means is that Disk Utility is doing some behind the scenes maintenance to keep bootable disks bootable, and you don't have to do anything.
