I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad 4th Gen. The issue is that, whenever I do a software update on either device through iTunes (Windows), I get a message saying 'the iPad/iPhone has been unable to update' and the device enters recovery mode and my windows PC won't recognise it. I have to then attach the device to my girlfriend's macbook which recognises the device in recovery mode and restores it.

Clearly there is an issue with my Windows PC. Has anybody encountered this problem and know how to solve it?

Thanks

Could be a problem with the USB ports. Also, you do have the latest version of iTunes installed? And sometimes, rebooting your computer clears up the problem.

But then, why bother doing the update through your PC? Over the air update works perfectly fine.
