Updating from MAC OS X 10.5 to 10.5.4

Need I to backup my files to an external drive before updating the os to 10.5.4 or all the files remain untouched?

All your user files will remain untouched, although backing up is always a good idea.
 
Correct. Your files will stay unharmed but by backing up the whole thing will be much safer!🙂
