Updating HOSTS file in 10.4.11

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I quick search didn't show anything up.


I just installed Aquafox and as part of the process, I installed ublock, Noscript, but I'd forgotten how to update the HOSTS file and the link on this page, leading to what I assume is the guide, appears to be broken.

Since OS X and windows use essentially the same format for the file, you can just plop the entries directly into your host file. On OS X the hosts file is located at /etc/hosts

P.S. Can definitely vouch for the MVP Hosts file you want to use, which I've used for a long time, and seeing the notice at the top of his page, hope that the guy maintaining it is doing better and out of hospital.

I tried following this, when I tried "su - administrator" wont accept my password, just says sorry.

I usually just use wicknix host file recommendation and put in /etc/hosts, backing up the previous is useless but maybe you want to do it

cp /etc/hosts ~/Documents/hosts.bk
sudo cp /yourHostFileLocation /etc/hosts
