I am trying to upgrade my IOS from 3.1.0 to 4.2.1 without upgrading my Baseband . I have tried to make a custom restore with pwnagtool 4.1.3 and then installing with Itunes and I get a error . any suggestions .

The latest i have tried is Pwnagetool 4.2 create a custom restore and the error I get is error 21
Let me go over this again. I use pwnage 4.2 create a custom restore then it asks me to put it in DFU ( I do) .Then Itunes opens I select the custom restore itunes starts out then errors The Iphone never comes alive no progress bar nothing . then I have to hard reboot to get it going again. weird.

The 3.1.2 bb is unlockable. You don't have to believe me. Go to jailbreakmatrix.com; it shows the bb associated with the stock iOS.
eta: IIRC, 4.0.2 has the last bb unlockable by non ipad bb means.

OK now this is getting interesting I tried to upgrade IOS with Itunes to 3.1.2 and i got a error that said the iphone was not authorized for this update . I have never seen that message before.
I wanted to quote the error verbatim so I just did it again and here it is. " The Iphone could not be restored, This device isn't eligible for the requested build '' anybody ever seen this.
GOT IT!!! I guess it was my sequencing for the DFU mode . I upgraded to 4.2.1 and my baseband is still 5.11.07 Thanks to all that helped me.
