Updating new iOS

When updating new iOS you are given the option of "download only" or "download and update". What would be the advantage of "download only"?

You don't have time to update (maybe on your way out) but would like to download it for later use.

You'd have the IPSW already downloaded in case you want to install that firmware version at a later time.

For us that need custom firmwares we use the download only option just to have the stock IPSW. Coming from itunes you know it is unmolested.
