I have an 27" iMac - Late 2013 (14,2). A few years ago the original fusion drive failed and I decided to get a 1TB SSD fitted as a replacement.

The drive that has been installed is a Crucial P1 - https://uk.crucial.com/ssd/eol_p1/ct1000p1ssd8

I've noticed that there is a firmware update available for the drive: https://uk.crucial.com/support/ssd-support/p1-support

Would I be able to create a bootable usb of the firmware ISO using balenaEtcher and boot from it to install the firmware update or is there simply no way for me to update the SSD firmware?

The bootable firmware updaters often do work just fine on Macs so I'd give it a try, but of course be sure you have good backups before you do any storage firmware updates. (Have good backups all the time, really.)

Just tried to boot from the image and it wasn't recognised.

Used balenaEtcher to image the iso to a usb stick, restarted and held option to attempt to boot from it but the usb wasn't available to boot from.

I have been using Samsung SSD's for almost 7 years, and have never updated the firmware.
I have no issues.

Some Samsung SSDs didn't even work on Macs without a firmware update and some older Samsung SSDs had terrible performance on their original firmware versions so sometimes it is worthwhile to update.

See if Crucial's instructions are any help:-

Unfortunately my SSD isn't connected via SATA so those instructions won't work, but thanks for posting.

My SSD is an M.2 drive connected in place of the Apple 128GB SSD that made up part of the fusion drive my iMac originally had.
