What happens if someone doesn't update them?

I have recently jailbroken my iPad three and want to update my blobs. if I don't will anything happen to them??

Basically you can only update them while apple is still signing them. Once Apple quits signing them you can no longer obtain them, or store them. With the iPad 3 the SHSH blobs are not actually useful now, but hopefully they will be in the future. It's quick and easy to do, and doesn't actually take up much space, I can't think of a reason not to now, while you can...

Here is a link for TinyUmbrella on the right hand side you'll see downloads, go down a bit and below "Help" you'll see the links you need to download and install TinyUmbrella. I don't know what operating system you are running so you'll need to pick the one that applies to you. You'll also need to install Java if you don't have it installed already.
 
Always save your blobs, when iOS 6 comes out you can use the blobs to downgrade to 5.1.1 if needed, also on a iPad3
