Updating to Snow Leopard with a Broken Screen

I have a bit of a unique problem. I have a MacBook Pro with a busted screen my girlfriend gave to me to use with my TV to watch Hulu etc. It is running tiger and I want to update it to Snow Leopard using the disc I purchased. However, since I can't see the screen, and when I try to put in the disc and boot the computer the screen goes blank then it spits out the disc, I'm kind of at a loss.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Can't you connect it to an external display?
