Updating to the latest OS

Hello All,

I have an older Mid 2014 21.5 inch iMac that I would love to update to whatever the latest OS is that it can handle. It is currently on Yosemite. It doesn’t show any OS updates available when I try through the App Store so would it just be a matter of doing a brand new install from the Internet or is there another method? We have other Mac’s in the house but this one works great and would love to update it.

Everymac.com shows that maximum macOS for 2014 iMac is Big Sur (macOS 11). You can get the steps and downloadable update from: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683

My suggestion is for Mojave.
Smooth, stable, and it still runs 32 bit apps.
