Wondering if I can upgrade a 2006 Mac Pro chassis with parts from a 2010? I found a 2006 chassis that is in new condition

Short answer : Nope .

Long answer : Nope .

There are five completely unique and noninterchangeable chassis styles with the Mac Pro series of computers .

1 - 2006-2007 ( Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1 ) .

2 - 2008 ( Mac Pro 3,1 ) .

3 - 2009-2012 ( Mac Pro 4,1 and 5,1 ) .

4 - 2013 ( Mac Pro 6,1 ) .

5 - 2019 ( Mac Pro 7,1 ) .

Don't be fooled by any of Apple's conservative style appearances - they're all actually different .

You know what's so scary about that statement ? It is subconsciously true . I literally didn't even consider it .

I’m hoping that what you wrote about the 4,1 being interchangeable with the 5,1 is true. I bought a pristine empty 4,1 case off craigslist a while back, and I want to swap my 5,1 innards out of their damaged case into the undamaged 4,1 case, and upgrade the WiFi card to be Catalina-supported in the process.

The MP has always been a tower, and the 6,1 is so radically different in appearance, most people don't put it in the same line of thinking. It's easy to over look. Regardless of it's innards, it doesn't look like a MP to me.

Sometimes there are genuine 2010 Mac Pro 12c Dual CPU bargains you can find on eBay at around $600 or less. Saves you hours on tinkering/transferring spare parts and testing if the machine works.
