    Hi all,

Ok, so lets say I have two lines on a family talk plan: Line A, and Line B. Line A is eligible for an upgrade pricing($200/$300), while Line B is not. I want to try and get Line B an iPhone, but without paying the extra $200 for early upgrade. So let's say I do this. I buy an iPhone for Line A and pay the normal $200/$300. Then, I take the sim card out from the iPhone and put in the sim card from Line B in, so that way the numbers dont get swapped. I take the sim card that came with the iPhone and put it into Line A's original phone. Do you think this will work?

    Thanks in advance.

You can do it, just let the person know before you start filling out paperwork. I am doing it with me and the brides phone. Her exchange date and mine are a year a part so I can switch out my phone every year if there is something out there I want. I got a Treo 750 last year and will get a Iphone 3G this year (sometime, I had to back order it).

Sodak, do you know if it will work for the iPhone? Treo is a little less locked up, so I don't know if the same thing will work for the iPhone.

    Anyone else had similar experiences..?

That is what I am doing, going from the Treo to the Iphone, but using the wifes expired contract. I have done it on a couple of different phones. You just have to let the AT&T store (I assumeApple store would know how also) that you are going to use the expired contract to change the other phone out.

BTW - this is kind of off-topic, but if i report a phone lost or stolen, do i become eligible for discount pricing?

So basically it sounds like you want to use your family member upgrade eligibility to upgrade yourself to an iPhone without paying the extra $200 and still retain your number.

Only problem i see is that I believe SimCards are iPhone lock so after removing the SimCard from Line A it would be useless to put it back into her original phone (which I'm assuming is not a iPhone)... As for Line B working with Line A iPhone after the SimCard swap would be interesting.

    Anyone have an answer?

Exactly what I was wondering. Didn't know about the iPhone lock - will ask an AT&T person soon though.

How would hand me down work for iPhone 3G...

So if Line A purchase the iPhone 3G for the subsidized price and hand it down to Line B since Line B can get it for the cheaper price.

    1. Would Line A still be require to continue paying the monthly data plan since they would be lock into that 2 year contract?

    2. How would activation work, since they are now done in-store?

    Has anyone tried this......
