upgrade from 2011 MBP to iMac

hi all,
looking to updgrade my base 2011 MBP to a 27" imac. right now I don't want to do the retina as it's a little above the budget.

Primary uses will be heavy Photoshop and lightroom use, Safari, iTunes, etc...

Should i get one of the new (not yet updated) available 27" models or maybe look at a refurbished older 27" imac in the apple store?
