Is it worth upgrading from the launch 2015 MB to a 2018 model?

My specs are:
1.2 GHz Intel Core M
8GB RAM 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD GPU 5300

I have an LG 5K monitor which looks amazing! In comparison, my 12" MB looks very pale in comparison. Is the screen on the latest 12" much better? Am also thinking we may see Touch Bar introduced on the 12" which I'd really like.

Did anyone else go through this upgrade?

As mentioned, there is no 2018 model.

Also, the MacBook has never had a wide colour gamut screen. The LG 5K is a WCG screen.

I would be shocked if the 2018 MacBook (if there is one) gets a Touch Bar. My guess is it won't, for multiple reasons. That's fine by me though, since I have no use for the Touch Bar.

What do you think a 2018 MB would do that your current 2015 model couldn't? If nothing, then why upgrade? Even if there is an incremental upgrade, would those few seconds or milliseconds be worth the money, if you aren't in a production environment?

If its just about the looks, then wait to see if Apple upgrades the external case and display.

I went from 2015 to 2017 and the difference was way worth it. The speed increase and keyboard are a big improvement after using the 2015 for a year. it's my primary laptop and i use the LG 4k Ultrafine monitor which looks way better than all the untraHD monitors. Id say once the 2018 comes out go for it and get applecare+. its amazing how apple has to swap half of the laptop when you take it in due to everything being fused together. To me its crazy how people wont buy this laptop but buy a phone for the same price. more than a year in and im still admiring this 12 inch wonder. If apple makes an OLED version without the borders, ill have to buy it again

funny, that's my exact experience. I also have the 2017 with the LG 4k ultrafine monitor. Love both the computer and the monitor. Fantastic combo. Only thing is that I can sense some very slight lag when plugged into the monitor. Not bad at all, but it's there (especially when I compare back to back with my 2017 MBP 15" plugged into the same monitor). Otherwise it's a workhorse of a machine.

At this point, if you're still on the fence, I'd wait for the 2018 updates before taking the plunge.

Yea I also had the 2017 MBP 15 and it was smoother but I got rid of it and for document work the 12 inch with monitor work smooth enough. You only notice the difference when running several programs at once and if you aren’t switching between laptops. I felt MBP was overkill for my uses and too big to carry around. I’d say also get the space gray full keyboard and trackpad for this setup and program the extra F keys to launch apps.

I have a similar question. What about upgrading my 2012 MBA 13" i5/ 8 ram/ 256 ssd to Macbook 12" Retina?
I mainly do lightroom photo editing and iMovie uploading to youtube

how significant of a power and upgrade is it?

I sold my 2013 mba because it would most likely be obsolete per Apple next year. It worked great and still had an awesome battery I just wanted a new one. Thought they would come out in September but like many of you still waiting.

Comes down do you have money to burn. How much can you get for your 2015? You willing to not have a laptop for a while. It’s price will plummet when the 2018 comes especially if they have a “cheap mb or mba”
