I have a friend with an iBook G3, 700MHz with 384MB of RAM. She's currently running 10.2.

Any thoughts on what the optimum OS would be for her? Should she go to 10.4?

...and has been said before - but a strip of 512 MB RAM will do wonders when you have it running Tiger.

10.4 is fine on my 700 MHz iBook (but I have 640 mb of RAM). I say install it anyway. If you're unhappy, you can always put 10.2 back on with a clean install.

I wouldn't really recommend it, although if you want you can try it and go back to 10.2 if you're not happy. I'm running tiger on an iBook G4 1GHz with 256mb of RAM, and it's slow as hell.

The 256MB is your problem - that's not near enough to run 10.4 in my experience. I ran it just find on a G3 800MHz with 640MB.
