Upgrade iMac from SL to Lion

If I buy the iMac now with SL....

what are the procedures for updating to Lion? Free update, timeframe?

It is free, any Mac purchased since June 6th 2011 gets a free update to Mac OS X 10.7.

is there a time restriction?

I think buying a final stage rock solid version of SL is preferable, then upgrading once stability is achieved with Lion.
