I have a 10.5” 2017 iPad Pro (A1709). My niece was over the other day and had an iPad not sure which one but the screen was noticeably larger. My current iPad does everything I want just fine I just want a bigger screen as my eyesight isn’t the best. All I really use it for is web browsing, email, and watching videos. I bought the pencil thing and a keyboard when I bought this iPad and never use either.

This points me to the 12.9 pro but the buyers guide says don’t buy one now as new ones are coming soon? I would assume any of the current models would outperform my three year old unit? For my given uses is there anything significant coming on the new iPad Pro that I should wait for or should I just buy now anyway? It doesn’t seem that there is anything other than the pro that has a screen significantly larger than what I have now is there?

I have the latest MBP that I use for all my work. My iPad is just a toy basically. I just use it to read and watch movies on when relaxing so I don’t think I need anything super special spec wise.

Thanks. Are there significant benefits to the new one given my usage to justify waiting or should I just buy now?

So does that make any difference for the things I do? Sorry to be so dense I am not really familiar with these things. I read the news and such, watch Netflix, and write emails to people. I have to squint at times to see my screen. Bigger screen would be nice. I don’t mean to sound like a Luddite but most this stuff I don’t understand. I would really like something that is easier to see but I don’t want to buy one now and a few months later it is outdated.

The newer screen tech may allow for richer colours and probably battery savings, while the newer chip will be more powerful in virtually all respects. In real life usage, it is likely you will experience slightly better performance where the chip is concerned, while in terms of the viewing experience the difference should be a little more noticeable.
As for the concern for tech being outdated, I’m afraid that is the nature of the beast - there is always something better around the corner, usually at a higher cost.

I can totally relate to the desire for the larger screen of the 12.9 inch iPad Pro. Given your use case I wouldn’t worry about having a newly purchased Pro become outdated as there is no reason to believe that the next generation of Pros will be so different as to make the current models obsolete, just like how the 2017’s are still perfectly capable of running all of the general applications we need today.
