You might have missed the point. I am referring to the WIDE camera, not the ULTRAWIDE one : the wide one has enlarged the ISO gamut from 2304 to 3072 (much mode sensitiveness in the darkness). See below specs and comparison to prior generation of wide angle

The results are mainly due to hw upgrade: please note night mode works by using new WIDE sensor, new processor, and software to gather as much information as possible from a dark scene.
How this will eventually work on a XR, has still to be proven. And I doubt it will be a success without a better hardware.

Probably it's me, but when I visit cities with my reflex I am mainly using a wide angle for my pics . I appreciate this feature a lot also on a phone that weights 20% of my reflex.

About poor connections, it's questionable - still need to check the upgrades from MY XR to MY 11 (yes, I have both :)) and will let you know foir sure.
Everything I’ve seen or read says the wide sensor is unchanged from last year, where did you get that table exactly?

It's coming from Halide anaysis , these guys do every accurate reviews typically :

I went from XR to 11. Main reasons for me were camera improvements (I’m glad portrait is back for everything), and possible connection improvements. We are in a rural area, so anything at all that can help my connection is welcome!

Obviously the other things will be perks (faster processor, faster Face ID, slightly longer battery life, better water resistance, better glass), but for me it’s mainly camera improvements and potential service improvements that pushed me over the edge.

I LOVE the size of the XR. I know going to the 11 pro would be too small for me anyway, so if I went that route, I’d go pro Max for sure, but the OLED gave me some bad headaches when I got the XS Max last year, so the pros were pretty much off the table anyway.

My wife and I both have the XR 128GB from last Oct and are debating if we keep using it for another year or turn them in on IUP and get either the iPhone 11 128GB or iPhone 11 Pro 256GB. Monthly price difference is less than $20 each.

What is making me hesitant for the Pro is just how useful is the zoom lens on the Pro. Will that make much of a difference at my kids softball or soccer games? Also, how much better is the OLED screen in direct sunlight?

Most likely whatever we do we will be getting the 2020 iPhones when they have a new design so this would be a 1 year phone.

Thoughts?
I love my XR and since it's payed off it would take much more than a one year newer devise for me to shell out any more cash. Then again we all spend our money/credit differently.

I voted keep the XR. You already have a phone from the notch generation. Next year is your year. Take the $1,200 or so you would have spent on a pro and buy shares of AAPL instead. Thank me down the road.

Were I to upgrade my XR, it would definitely be to the 11 for the same reason I bought the XR: value. However, I haven’t even considered upgrading this year and may not next year. My XR does more than I need.

Besides, I have other financial interests than growing Apple’s bottom line. At least they stopped mixing Roman numerals and letters. 😉

I would say the opposite...
being able to take a good picture in low light conditions - the difference is impressive
wide angle photography
improved data speed - which helps you a lot in areas where the connection is poor
I was able to greatly improve low light pictures on the XR by using the app NeuralCam. Not as good as the 11 but much better than the stock XR.

Agree with this. The difference from 6 to XR was absolutely night and day and well worth it, but xr to 11 I doubt I personally would notice the difference. 2-3 year gap I feel is about right for me as that is enough new processors to notice a difference in speed, unless of course they do what they did with the ipad and stick a 3 year old one in a new phone!!
XR user here and would completely agree with this. 6 to XR was an amazing upgrade, but XR to 11 to me seems pointless unless one is really desperate for the better camera. Personally considering XR to 11 Pro Max as to me that would be a big upgrade (size, screen quality, smaller bezels, camera and battery) but very much doubt I will part with the cash.

The jump from XR to 11 Pro Max will definitely be more noticeable than the jump to the 11. But I still wouldn't say it's a huge upgrade. Yes the display is slightly larger, smaller side bezels, 1 extra GB of RAM and the display resolution and ppi are higher than the XR but then again these are all true for the XS Max.

The 11 Pro Max's camera is better than the XR's as is the battery life. But in my opinion those improvements are not worth the extra money (where I'm at the XR is sold for $800 at Apple while the 11 Pro Max is priced at over $1500).

That’s the problem I’m having. The XR to 11 makes no sense. The XR to 11 Pro is a nice upgrade, but is it worth $750 (11 Pro) to $850 (11 Pro Max) plus $370 XR trade value? Not for me at all. That’s the same as me keeping my XR plus buying an 11” iPad Pro, for reference. That makes a hell of a lot more sense than getting an incremental (and I stress incremental) upgrade from the XR to the 11 Pro. My XR is fast as hell, excellent battery, takes good enough pics, and has the current iPhone X to 11 Pro design language. I’ll wait until next year. I upgraded my watch from the series 2 to the series 5 so feel like I satisfied at least some Apple hardware itch this year.

If it were me I would stay with the XR another year, cancel IUP, sell my XR, and then use the cash for an upgrade. Or just keep my XR another year or two as it will surely still be a good phone then.

I just upgraded from a 7 to an 11 because my 7 had an unfortunate accident during a fall while running and was basically beyond repair. Originally I was going to wait another year for an upgrade. It’s been a nice upgrade but I’m still not used to the size increase. It’s only been two days so I guess I will get used to it eventually.
