I purchased a 3G yesterday and am having problems getting my last good back up from my 1st gen to my 3G. When I first plugged the 3G into my iMac it asked me if I wanted to restore from my last successful backup. I said yes and it then failed saying that the firmware version didn't match and I needed to upgrade to 2.0.2 first and then restore the backup. I installed 2.0.2 but am unable to figure out how to restore my last 1st gen good backup. It is not prompting me to do so and I am not seeing how to tell it to do so. Any help would be appreciated?

I am also curious what exactly will be restored? Favorites? SMS Message history? Notes?

    Thanks in advance.

My advice would be to wait until this afternoon when (and if) they update to 2.1 and 8.0

I believe this will fix your issues. As it is right now, you will never get your back up on your new iPhone because of all the 2.0 and 7.7 software issues. You would have to set up your iPhone as new and forgo the restore from backup until hopefully this afternoon.

This is why I have not purchased a 3G yet. I am waiting for 95% software stabilization and then I will move to the next level. Also waiting for some of the production issues (light leaks, stress cracks, 3G modules) that have been fixed under the proverbial rug to start showing in the stores.

I would just wait for another 5 hours or so and set up this afternoon,
    Good Luck

Why would anytone who has a perfectly good first-generation iphone "upgrade" to a 3g with its cheap, plastic construction and endless app bugs? I haven't had a solitary problem with my first-generation iphone since I bought it when it first came out.:)

Pretty simple. I dropped it and the screen cracked.
