I have a deaktop Imac no longer upgrade able to new MacOS. I love it and it has all my music on it. Is it possoble to upgrade it to new Os and possibly add memory? Can anyone help/advise? Thanks
Assuming you have an iMac model that "allows" Mojave, you can use Mojave "safely" for a few more years, as Apple should provide Security Updates for that OS. Not sure, though, about how many "applicable" third party apps will continue to provide needed security updates.I have a deaktop Imac no longer upgrade able to new MacOS. I upgraded (actually did a fresh, clean installation) to Catalina from Mojave on both of my Macs, and except for a couple of 32 bit apps, I did not lose anything. For those 32 bit apps, though, I either already had a replacement, or found one. And about 99.9% of the time, Catalina is fine.you probably will lose more than you gain by switching to catalina.
According to this:Hi sorry for late reply its 27inch late 2009 running Sierra 10.12.6
Its not offering any upgrade! My question is can I get the latest OS on this/maybe upgrade the chip and memory?According to this:
Mac OS Compatibility Guide by Mac Model
Easily check which versions of mac OS, iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS are compatible with your Mac model or iDevice.eshop.macsales.com
High Sierra, OS 10.13.6, is the latest version of the Mac OS that is supported on late 2009 models.

It's reached a point where it's fully "deprecated" -- no further upgrades possible (at least not without some work).
My opinion -- not worth the money to upgrade "chip and memory", nor the internal drive, as well.
11 years old is getting close to "all you're gonna get out of it".
Time to start shopping for something new or at least "newer".
I'd be looking at Apple-refurbished 2017 27" iMacs, a good value.
Get 8gb of RAM.
Get an SSD -- either 512gb or 256gb (easy to add more external storage via USB3).
