Upgrade or Wait: Concerned about my Bootcamp partition

I've got Windows 8.1 Pro on my default partition (SSD shared with OS X Mavericks). Trying to decide if updating OS X would be unwise at this point, as there seem to be reports of trouble w.r.t. the bootcamp partition disappearing (Apple Bootcamp Forum)?

Who's had success keeping their existing Windows partition working after upgrading?
