I have a 12" PowerBook G4, and in preparing to upgrade to Leopard (I am waiting for 10.5.1 until I install...) I would like to upgrade the HD in my laptop. Half way through the life of this computer my HD original Toshiba 60GB 4200 RPM drive died and was replaced with another of the same.

The space in this HD has been outgrown for the last 2 years but I have put off opening her up and replacing the drive until the AppleCare was out...now it is.

Will the benefit from a 7200 HD be that much more obvious than a 5400 RPM drive? For 89.99 I can get a 160GB 5400 RPM Hitachi drive with perpendicular recording, and for 100.00 I can get a 100GB 7200 RPM drive. Will the difference in speed be that much greater with the 7200 RPM drive in comparison with the 5400?

Hello, I had the same issue I just went from an 80gb 5400 to a 100gb 7200 and there is a noticeable increase performance.:D
I went to NewEgg for the Seagate Momentous and a 1gb ram chip. It's like a new machine.:) If leopard really runs faster than Tiger (as reported) on these G4's then we should be good to go for a while.:apple::apple:
    Good luck,
