Hi all:

I plan to upgrade my MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012) to a new model sometime this year. I have a few questions.

1. I have my data backed-up using time machine on an external HD. Is it a seamless process to transfer all my data onto the new mac so that when i use the new computer, its feels like my old machine? I guess the best comparison would be like when someone buys a new phone, they restore from iCloud backup and their new phone has same settings, same apps, so its like using the new phone. I haven't done this before, so just want to make sure how this works.

2. Would you all recommend the Touch Bar version or the Non-Touch Bar version? Any quick pros/cons from owners? They removed the 2015 version with the ports from the mac store, and this current unit I have is becoming very slow, so looks like I only have these two options.

Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help address my questions.

I just upgraded from a late-2012 MBP 13 to a new MBP 15. Backed up to TIme Machine and then started up the new MBP. I let it setup from a Time Machine backup. SO EASY.

When it was finished, I logged onto my New MBP and everything was exactly as it was on the old machine. All the apps and data were right where they should have been.

I did have to get an update to the activation code for CleanMyMac and iMazing. MS Office would not activate AT ALL. I had to uninstall and reinstall Office.

After that, all was great.

I LOVE the Touch Bar. I know a lot of folks don't like or use it. Touch ID alone has made things much easier. I don't use 10% of what Touch Bar can do, but I love what I am doing with it.
