I'm getting the top of the line iMac. Want to upgrade to 4g ram - doing it myself.

I'm assuming what's in there currently is 2 - 1g sticks, which means I have to remove both and install 2 - 2g sticks to get a total of 4g?

    Is that right?

I guess it would be too convenient for Apple to do 2g with one stick. Ugh!

That's a good question now that 2GB is the default. When I bought my mid-2007 24" iMac it was 1GB but it was 1x1GB stick so I suppose it's possible they're now doing 1x2GB.

no...they will always do 2x1gb, simply because they know that if you want 4gb then you'll have to pay for all 4gb rather than just buying 2gb. It's just apples way of saying i love you while stabbing you in the back kinda way:D
