Replace with SSD...solved ALL of my problems...I have 8gb ram and runs like a champ...mid 2009 mbp. a 240gb SSD will run you $110 bucks..it will be a new machine, believe me

Maybe it depends on where you are, but I got a 275 GB SSD for $69.99 in-store. Super great upgrade for my 2010 stock 13" MBP.

SSDs are now more affordable than ever. Adding 16 GB of RAM will be as fast as 8 GB or your current 4 GB (RAM might no be the factor slowing down your computer.)

Well I decided to go for the new storage over RAM since that was the general consensus. I opted for the 1TB Hybrid drive from Seagate since my cousin who is in IT security had one in his 2010 MBP and highly recommended it. I liked it because it was little less than many SSDs matching my current storage capacity and the Hybrid has double the capacity. I know I know I, SDDs are still better and I could have just gotten a external HDD, which I have a 1TB, but I hate having to drag it around with me everywhere and my late 2011 still has USB 2.0 so transfer speeds are slower. I also am starting a Jeep YouTube channel and I would like to be able to have a lot of my footage onboard for quick access without slowing down the computer too bad. Thanks for all the advice guys! I will let you know what I think of the SSHD drive once I get it installed!

Meh. Let us know how you fare in dealing with large files being worked on, or results of BlackMagic disk speed test.
Yes, it's a 'synthetic' benchmark but once your 'hybrid' blows out/fills up it's cache, you're back to standard drive speeds.
I'd still add RAM to get at least to 8GB.
PS - a good number of people telling you to go SSD can also claim to work in IT - it's with reason we're all saying SSD > HHD.

So far the computer is now actually useable. It takes a few boots for it to really dial in and figure out what file to keep on the 8GB of SSD but my first initial boot was cut in half! It took over 2 minutes and 20 seconds for my MBP to start from being fully shut down. My first boot up was just over a minute. So while it is not an SSD, it definitely is helping! Next will be RAM once I get a little money together for it. So far I am loving it! I use my Mac at work and everything is web based so I just need to programs I use often to be able to sit on the SSD and work quickly.

SSD would have been much quicker, sorry to say but you messed up when you bought the hybrid drive.

I see you have failed to read the several times I mention that I am fully aware that an SSHD is not as good as an SSD. I am fully aware that an SSD is the BEST option. However my budget just couldn't support buying an SSD of a comparable size as my original 500GB HDD for a comparable price to an SSHD that also doubled my storage to 1TB. An SSHD offered a performance gain and storage increase that fit my needs. I never intended to seek the highest performance gain out there, I wanted a good budget friendly performance gain that didn't decrease my storage capacity and the SSHD was a perfect match! As SSD prices come down even more I will upgrade once more but for now the SSHD is serving me just fine!

- It's good that you're satisfied with your solution. But you could have had higher speed and the same large storage capacity at a good price by going with SSD+HDD as was also suggested.

I looked into that as well but for some reason the idea of losing the optical drive just didn't sit well with me for some strange reason. I couldn't tell you the last time I even used it but I just didn't have a good feeling about it. Which is why I gravitated to the SSHD. It fits my needs for now and as soon as SSD get below $100 for 1TB I will likely swap it out.
