I love my SE but I’m looking at the 7 which I could get for a decent price but is it worth it? I’d be trading for a bigger screen and half the storage of my SE.

Thoughts?

No one can answer that for you. They are two different form factors and usually someone who loves the SE wouldn’t want a 7 because of the size difference... I’d say if you don’t mind a bigger phone, the 7 will give you better hardware..

This is exactly what I did a while ago and it’s absolutely worth it. I also got the 7 for a really good price!

I installed beta 12 on it and everything is super fast and smooth.

A friend has the 8 and I don’t notice a difference other than the camera having better dynamic range and colors on the 8.

I’d say go for it. Enjoy 3D Touch and a fixed home button.

The iPhone 7 is an upgrade in almost every way with the stereo speakers, Haptic home button, A10 fusion processor, water resistance rating, etc. You just need to decide if the storage with iPhone 7 is adequate for your needs.

I did a similar thing, went from a 5s, which I always loved, to a 6s, which is the same size as the 7. I have been very happy, the 7 is still small enough to not be cumbersome but the increased screen size is quite nice. As far as going down in available storage size, only you can answer that. Just curious, what size storage will your 7 have?

Agree with the above.

I went with greater storage, red and the home button including the 3D Touch was a major bonus.

I had my wife’s 5S to test the iOS waters again from android and glad I went for the 7. The screen size is comfortable.

How much storage are you currently using on the SE? If you are over, or even close to, 32GB, then you'll find the 7 frustrating to use, unless you change your habits of offload data frequently.

Alrighty I ordered one. 32GB iPhone 7 here I come. I'm going from an iPhone SE 64GB to an 7 32GB

As long as you’re not using too much on the SE you’ll be fine. Even though I’ve 129gb I’m still very ocd about my camera roll and what I’m using.

Apps I’m not too worried about and I tend you be more flexible for apps and the space they consume since I get great use out of my apps!!

You know, as long as you dont take a ton of video or store large amounts of music files, you will probably be fine. I came from a 16g 5s to a 64g 6s. I now store about 20g of music on my 6s and always have tons of storage left. I think your 7 will serve you just fine. If you run into storage problems you will know what to buy next time around.

To me, unless am sitting at 20% or less on current storage use, I would be very unhappy with halving storage.

The only thing that would entice me to switch is Touch-ID2, but currently that's not enough to move me to a pocket-unfriendly 4.7" phone. YMMV.

I think you’re making a big mistake going with 32gb. I went from a 64gb SE to 32gb ip7 to a 256gb ip7 because I ran out of storage on the base model.

Only upgrade from SE to 7 if you really need the water resistant, larger screen, and better front facing camera. Other than those, the difference is not a lot considering the SE also has 2GB of RAM and 4K video recording. The A9 still runs great on iOS11, and the benefit of the A10 over the A9 is not that huge in daily stuff.

Now, the 7 Plus is more of an upgrade is you ask me. You'll get more RAM (2GB to 3GB) and dual camera. But of course you're upgrading to a much larger phone.

In the end, the question imo boils down to do you need a larger screen. If the answer is yes, upgrade. If not, then save your money.

Agreed. 32 GB of storage is basically the 16GB of iPhone storage today. With iOS updates, video/photo’s, media, it does _not_ take much to consume 32GB. And actually,
When the iPhone initializes after setup, its not 32GB, it might be closer to 28GB.

My eyes need the bigger screen. I looked at my storage on the SE and there’s a bunch of apps I don’t use at all. I removed them. I’m well below the 32GB limit. Photos and videos, nah I’m not a shutterbug. I stream most of my content from YouTube and Apple Music.

Overall we shall see. I can return the device and go back to my SE if I can’t handle it.

Absolutely it's a worthy upgrade. I've had both models, and while the SE is good, the 7 outperforms it.

The only factor is can you live with half the storage?

Sounds like you made a great decision for you.

Ageeed that the storage worries that people have can be over the top.

With iCloud Photo Library turned on etc I struggle to get beyond 20 GB (and I’ve got 128).

With the move to The Apple file system and the new photo format (I can’t remember its name!), 32GB is a way more healthier option than it has been for a while - especially in the era of streaming and large data plans.

Our phones are now becoming caching devices more than storage facilities!

If that’s the case that you’re having vision problems that keep you from seeing the smaller screen well and you’re under 32GB of storage on your current phone you’ll probably be happy with the upgrade.

I actually miss my 7 and I have the X some days I rather have my 7

The X is highly overrated imo. I have co-workers who have let me use theirs and I was not impressed. I gusss I expected more from a $1000 phone (more like $1400 after 256gb upgrade, Apple Care and Tax which is why I never bought one).

I want to thank everyone for the supportive comments. Though the storage sounds like it may be a struggle I still believe that it will be the best iPhone for me for now. :) I’m so excited to get it. Just a few more days.

Hot take right here. The X is not worth it according to someone who probably didn’t want to pay for it even if he was enamored with it.

Enjoy your phone! Let us know how you get on with it :)
