Hi guys,

SERIES 3 on watchOS 7.0.1, I updated it a couple of days ago.
--> I unpaired the S3, in the belief this would backup my watch.
--> S3-trade-in, returned with a SERIES 6.

NO BACKUP FROM TODAY VISIBLE 😟😭

They did mess around with my old watch, wanted me to pair it again for the IMEI but assured me twice that my anxieties would be unfounded and the backup would work just fine.

Is there any hope?
Has that something to do with the old watch being watchOS 7.0.1 and the new one maybe not?
But why would it show backups from the beginning of the year....

I feel desperate because I did everything exactly like those support documents.

Many thanks for your help!!

Ok I set up the SERIES 6 as new watch and there is a software update available!
Doing it now!

Do I have to backup my iPhone to iCloud as well after the watch-backup earlier?

I had the exact same problem the other day when I needed to re-pair my new series 6. It showed a back up from a couple of weeks ago but not the one it just took. Fortunately, the old backup was okay. There is definitely something wrong with Apples backend infrastructure IMO.

I already re-paired a couple of watches. The promised backup only showed up after I did the backup from backups ages ago - every time. But as it only affects the current setup and NOT the data, I just did everything kinda "from scratch"...

Frankly, there is really very little contained in the backup other than your preferences and settings. The important stuff like your health data is stored on your phone and/or in the cloud.

I suspect that you will see your backup after you update your new watch, but really, even if you don’t end up having a backup it isn’t the end of the world. Having to reconfigure the watch is kind of a pain and might cost you 30 minutes or an hour, but you shouldn’t really lose any important data.

Dear all,

many many thanks for your quick responses and help - it was highly appreciated!

First, it calmed me down.
Second, you were right. After the update the backup showed up and even though it took a while, it is now completed and it works!
Third, it’s good to know that even if it didn’t work the majority of the important data would not be lost.

So I can go, explore that new tool and enjoy it!

Just as a bit of info...... You can always check what backups your iPhone has stored.
Simply go to Settings/General/iPhone Storage/Watch
There you will find a list of all backups your watches have made.
Each one will only be around the 1MB size so nothing of importance is backed up each time.

Wow, that is very interesting! Thank you. And again, you're absolutely right, just as you described. Fascinating. So all these apps and downloaded music and stuff, is basically just "written down" in some of those files and the watch fetches it later again to restore itself to the backup-status?
