- I do remember a not very reassuring thread reporting various issues, including the SSD being a millimetre too large, resulting in a bad fit. But I don't remember reading about "a ton of problems" on any larger scale. Could you point to it?.
Just search on these forums for OWC Aura

Beachballs, drives dissappearing, terrible performance...

Will any 2013+ mac mini or imac with SSD have the correct drive?
Short answer probably.
AFAIK, any 2013/2014 gen Mac, including Airs & Pros, use the same type of PCIe SSD drives and are interchangeable.
Although, YMMV, since I can only vouch for the specific case I've tried.

The 2015 SSDs have 4x PCIe which may or may not be compatible with the firmware in earlier gen models.
My scenario with the 2014 MM & 2013MBA (both refurbs) made sense both from a financial and usability aspect.

UPDATE: I finally had a chance to install the OWC Aura Pro 2012 into my 11" 2012 Air. I tested the speed of the original 256GB Apple SSD with the 480GB Aura Pro. The read speed is slightly better for the Aura but the write speed is slightly worse. However, the differences are pretty small and I cannot feel the difference anyway.

BUT !!!! my Aura Pro had the same problem, which was described earlier by other users somewhere in this forum, of being physically longer and not fitting into the available space.

Well, luckily the plastic battery divider interfering with the Aura can easily be carved with an X-acto knife so that the Aura can fit in.

Needless to say, this doesn't look good for the OWC. This is a well known problem and it should have been solved a long time ago.
