Hello,

I think about to upgrade from my iPhone 14 and 13 to iPhone 16 or iPhone 15 Pro.

My thoughts that the price of iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 Pro in real market are getting nearly the same.

iPhone 16:
+ A18 Chip
+ 1 year longer support
+ new camera button

iPhone 15 Pro
+ A17 Pro
+ 120hz Display
+ USB3

Same Featureset
= AI Features
=+ Camera (might be still better at the Pro)

What’s your opinion about this comparison?
Which one would you buy? With the same budget.

If you don’t mind the 3x telephoto lens on the iPhone 15 Pro then I would say that it is the perfect iPhone to upgrade to in your situation. Also you get Promotion Display at 120 hertz and Always on Display which is nice.
Secondly if there are moments when you need a 5x telephoto zoom lens then I would advice you to upgrade to the iPhone 16 Pro.

If any of the above don’t matter to you or the 120 hertz Promotion Display and Always on Display are things that are not important to you then I would say that the iPhone 16 is a better choice for you.

Is the "1 year longer support" actually a pro in your situation? Do you plan on using the new phones for the next 7-ish years until they're no longer supported, or will you be upgrading again before then? If the latter, the additional year will have no benefit to you.

I'd take a close look at ProMotion and USB3 as well. Are you able to tell the difference between a ProMotion display and a regular one? (Some people can't or don't care.) Do you transfer large files regularly and need the faster speeds?

You're not wrong...just have to be honest with yourself and be careful not to fluff up your pros/cons list with things that don't really apply to your situation or needs. Don't get hung up on the specs/features that you won't be taking advantage of.

My motto is "Buy what you need today; buy what you want tomorrow."

If I were in your shoes, I would upgrade the 13 and save the 14 for next year. I hear the iPhone 17 will be amazing and is the one to wait for. ;)

From functional perspective and daily usage, there is no real need to upgrade our phones.
But it’s time now. :)

From all unneeded points I think so the befinits are in rare corner cases. This means in photography at family events or might be the usb3 speed. Of course the 120hz is also nice after a few days there will be no real life difference.

In total I will have a look for the iPhone 15 Pro to get it for a good price instead of the iPhone 16.

Yep and keep in mind the ai stuff like Siri won’t be released til around Feb/mar 2025. Gurman even said it’s at least 6 months away. If you’re on an older phone wanting this ai stuff you may as well wait til iPhone 17. Or find a cheap used 15 pro. But I can already tell you the beta ai stuff now (October release) is far from impressive.
