Upgrade to WiFi Calling
Using T-Mobile as a carrier.
Since the update to 13.4 Beta 2 I am unable to upgrade to WiFi calling on my other apple devices. Note that WiFi calling when iPhone is nearby works however when the iPhone is NOT nearby does not work. Cannot enable the Upgrade to WiFi Calling on other devices even though the option to enable appears and when selected then nothing happens. Note that all other devices are on Beta versions of iOS and Catalina as well.
  1. Force ReStarted iPhone (No Success)
  2. Turned WiFi Calling OFF & ON (No Success)
  3. Turned Add WiFi calling for other devices OFF & ON (No Success)
  4. Turned Allow calls on other devices OFF & ON (No Success)
Note - WiFi Calling from iPhone when near by -- Works. When Not near by - does not work.

I have not reported it yet since I want to make sure that it is not just me & T-Mobile before I do that.
Let me know your thoughts, Thanks.

Even if it is just you, you should report it.

I can only take some WAGes but...

To be clear, wifi calling is fully functional however wifi calling from iCloud devices is not working. Is that accurate? To clarify, the iPhone does wifi calling and the iCloud devices will work for wifi calling however the iCloud devices will not work for wifi calling when the iPhone is not local to them and/or off/airplane mode/etc?

All devices are on the same iCloud/AppleID correct?

Did it work prior to the update? Have you talked to anyone using the iOS beta on t-mobile to confirm functionality? Wifi calling is specific for iOS builds and specific devices to prevent abuse from hacked software (free calls via jailbreak).

Has there been a carrier update for the beta? Have you done a subscriber and service update (I dont know the numbers off the top of my head)? Version 40.0 correct?

Is your E911 address still available and accessible by your iCloud devices? If this was removed then Wifi calling will not work. You can access this information on the devices and at the carriers website in your account.

Have you tried different wifi networks? Wifi calling requires UDP 500 and 4500 and NAT access along with other settings for optimization like WMM. If you use a VPN it can prevent proper wifi calling operation. I can't say wifi calling doesn't work on a VPN however I haven't had one work (properly) while using a VPN (only my personal experience). The wifi calling connection is a VPN itself. Also some networks

Wifi Calling location services (settings > privacy > location services > system > wifi calling) is used to determine your current location for short code calls. I don't know if this would effect carrier updates and/or functionality but having it isn't any more of an invasion of privacy then using a cell tower normally.

Although I wouldn't recommend it because its a beta you could try reseting network settings. I would roll the one of the iCloud devices back to a commercial release just to test prior to resetting network settings.

T-Mobile tech support may have answers for you as well if you give them a call.

Just a couple things to try or think about if you haven't already.

Thank you for a clear and concise way of troubleshooting. Before I move forward, I want you to know that this WiFi calling ability when iPhone is NOT nearby began to happen right after I updated to Beta 2 of iOS 13.4. As you know, the iPhone and the carrier soley control this function. If the iPhone does not register well with the carrier then the other devices such as an iPad or a Mac (signed in with the same Apple ID) will not be able to make or receive calls when the iPhone is NOT nearby.
I have been using this feature for quite some time and had some doubt that this could be a result of Beta 2 and carrier update 40.0. I just wanted to confirm that. This week Beta 3 was released along with carrier update 41.0 and the functionality of Upgrade to WiFi Calling was working again. I should have updated this thread.
One good thing that came out of this post is that it generated a good result and that is your detailed troubleshooting post. It will benefit someone experiencing this issue in the future. Thanks again.
