I currently have a 2008 Mac Pro 2.8 quad.
Will I see much of an improvement if I purchase a
an iMac 27-inch 2.93GHz Intel Quad-Core i7?
 
Wait until iMac gets updated with sandybridge and mobility 6k gpus.

The question of "is it worth it?" depends on what you need your computer to do.
