This definitely feels like a great upgrade. The screen is noticeably bigger going from the 44mm to the 45mm and this feels like a return to the two day battery life that I used to get on my Series 3 watch.

Only complaint is the front glass apparently hasn’t really gotten any more scratch resistant unless I got the stainless steel version.

Agreed, I went from a 40mm S5 to a 41mm S9 and wasn't expecting to notice the 1mm difference in screen size, but was pleasantly surprised to discover that it has meant a lot less squinting to read the tiny complications on some of the watch faces I use. I charge nightly so don't know if I could make it two days, but in the more than 3 1/2 weeks I've had it has been consistently over 50% when I put it on the charger.

I don't share your scratch-resistance complaint because I upgraded to the SS version this time -- mostly for the sapphire crystal and am so glad I did; it's great to be able to walk through a doorway without feeling like I have to pull in my wings.

I know that since Series 8 they now operate as standalone GPS.

Can you check whether when you disable Location Services on iPhone it still keeps to be turned on the Watch?

Prior to Series 8 any changes to Location Services are mirrored between Watch and iPhone.

I have 13 mini and Series 7 right now. This could be beneficial for battery life on the phone.

Well I just have every setting set to mirror my iPhone. Would you like me to turn that off and try the GPS?

I guess you could just turn off GPS as a whole on the iPhone and see if it gets mirrored to the Watch.

S5 to S9 is a very nice upgrade.

I just got a discounted SS S9 and think it's even a decent upgrade from S7 or maybe even S8 - the screen is noticeably brighter, it feels quite a bit snappier moving around menus etc, and the gpu upgrade is quite noticeable on screen transitions and app animations. That stutter that comes with notifications sliding up on the screen that has always bugged me is gone on the S9.

I very nearly upgraded this year to the series 9 and also considered the series 8 in a stainless model. I was put off doing it by members here at the time and am now waiting another year for the series 10. I have a series 5 too and the battery is struggling in its fifth year but should make it through another 12 months.

It’s disappointing really that Apple hasn’t improved the scratch resistance of the screen. Sapphire should be across the board now. I’m not paying silly money for a stainless model unless it’s got a £200 discount.

Yeah general sentiments from people nearly had me not upgrading as well but I got real sick of the crappy battery life and its performance. Now with AOD on, I can make it 24hrs whereas with my Series 5 that would have never happened

It does but that’s only cos I’m mirroring every setting
Got it, thank you.

I guess they kept option to change the settings mirrored, but if you start a workout or other gps intensive task it will only use gps on the watch.

Four generation improvements are certainly big one. Glad to hear your appreciation on the improvements. About the front glass not more scratch resistant, it is always the way of aluminum Apple Watch front glass is, unfortunately. Despite that, wish you enjoying your new watch😊
